Conlon & Co unveils plans for 80-bed student housing residence in Chicago

Conlon & Co. has officially unveiled plans to convert the Plymouth Building, an 11-story building in downtown Chicago originally constructed in 1899, to a boutique 80-bed student housing project. The building will be known as “The Plymouth” and will seek to attain LEED Silver certification. Construction is expected to kick off in late spring or early summer 2010, which will allow The Plymouth to be ready for occupancy by the start of the 2011-2012 academic year. This exciting redevelopment will preserve a historically significant building and help to restore the historic Dearborn Street, while serving as a model of sustainability in development and operation of a student housing property in downtown Chicago.

The Plymouth will be marketed on a master lease basis to local universities and should prove to be an excellent fit for a college who desires a brand new campus-enhancing asset that will brighten the academic and social experience of its students. The building will house 80 students in 20 four-person suites. Each of the 20 suites will contain two bathrooms, a kitchenette and living room, full appliances, and a washer/dryer. Building amenities are to include a theater room, fitness center, conference and presentation facilities, indoor bike storage, a student lounge, and a publicly accessible ground floor retail café.
